Frequently asked questions
How do I record?
Tap Record. The first time, iOS asks for microphone access. The recording keeps going with the screen locked, and the file is written to your iPhone as you go. You can pause and resume; tap the stop button to finish. A phone call pauses the recording; tap resume when it ends.
It says “Microphone access is off”. What do I do?
Open iOS Settings › Memoscope and turn on Microphone. Importing and playback work without it.
How do I bring in my Voice Memos?
In Voice Memos, share a recording and choose Save to Files; then tap Import in Memoscope and pick the audio files. You can also send an audio file to Memoscope from another app’s share sheet. The free version imports 5 files at a time; Memoscope Pro imports any number. Memoscope makes its own copy; the originals are not changed.
How do I read the sound map?
The thin bars on top are the recording’s loudness, like in Voice Memos. The square brackets underneath mark each part: an orange bracket with a note is music and singing, a blue bracket with a speech bubble is talking. Where there is no bracket it is quiet. A light orange band behind the waveform is a clip. Tap the map or the list of parts to go to any part.
What is a clip, and how do I make one?
A clip is any stretch of a recording you want to keep: music, talking or anything else. Open a recording and tap the scissors next to a part, or New clip in the Clips header (it takes the part at the playhead). On the screen that opens, name the clip, drag its start and end handles on a close-up waveform or nudge them by half a second, and add tags. Clips are free, and the recording’s original file is not changed.
What does Mark do while recording?
The flag button on the recording screen (Mark) notes the moment when you tap it, right after something good. When the recording is mapped, each mark becomes a clip (“Mark 1”, “Mark 2”…): the music or talking part you tapped in, from at most 45 seconds before the tap to 15 seconds after it. A second tap within 2 seconds is ignored. You can trim the clip afterwards.
How do I organise my recordings and clips?
Open a recording or a clip and add tags (for example “Song ideas” or “Content”); tags you have used are suggested. Switch between Recordings and Clips at the top of the library; Clips gathers the clips from every recording in one list. Tap a tag to filter; search looks in titles, clip names and tags. Tags are free and stay on your iPhone.
Can I switch to dark mode or change the language?
Yes: Settings → Appearance (System, Light, Dark) and Settings → Language (System, English, Türkçe). The change applies right away. To see the intro again, go to Settings → How Memoscope works.
How do I skip the silence or hear only my clips?
In a recording, pick from the play menu next to the speed button: Play everything, Skip silence (plays the music and talking parts and skips the quiet in between) or Only clips (plays your clips one after another and stops after the last). The ▶ next to a clip plays just that clip.
How do I loop or slow down a part?
Open a recording and use the loop button next to a part to play it again and again. The speed button plays from 0.5× to 2× without changing the pitch, and there are 15-second back and forward buttons.
The map looks wrong.
The labels come from automatic sound recognition: music with talking over it can show up as either, and parts shorter than 3 seconds are folded into their neighbours. Tell us what kind of recording was mapped wrongly; it helps us tune it.
What is in Memoscope Pro?
Sharing a clip as its own audio file (touch and hold a clip, or swipe it right: Share clip), sharing all clips of a recording as one file (Share → Share all clips as one file), and importing any number of files at once. It is a one-time purchase: no subscription, nothing renews, and Family Sharing is included. The Pro screen shows the price. Recording, sound maps, clips and tags are always free.
How do I restore my purchase?
Go to Settings → Restore purchases, or use the same button on the Pro screen. Pro comes back on the Apple Account that bought it and in its Family Sharing group.
Can I get a refund?
Apple processes purchases, so refunds come from Apple: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. See the Terms of Use.
Does Memoscope change my files?
No. The original audio is never changed, and the map is only a set of time ranges. A clip is only a time range; sharing creates a new .m4a file each time.
Where are my recordings? Can I move them to a new phone?
Your recordings are stored on your iPhone, in Memoscope’s own folder. There is no sync in this version. They may be included in your iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or a computer), and you can send any recording anywhere with Share recording.
The App closed during a recording. Is it lost?
No. The file is written while you record; when you open Memoscope again, the part recorded so far is in the list as a “Recovered recording”.
How do I delete a recording?
Swipe left on it in the list and tap Delete. This deletes Memoscope’s audio file, its map and its clips; the originals in Voice Memos or Files stay.
Does Memoscope upload or transcribe my audio?
No. The map is made on your iPhone and your recordings are not sent anywhere; the App’s only connection is Apple’s App Store, for Pro. There is no transcription in this version. Its App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”; see the Privacy Policy.
